In the original Mario Kart 64, you could save your best laps as "ghosts" to a memory pak and race against them at a later time. In the VC version, this option is not available. A Nintendo spokesperson says, "Due to unavoidable technical reasons unfortunately it is not possible to save ghost data."
Granted, you can still enjoy Mario Kart 64 without ghosts, but this does bring up an interesting question: What will happen to those N64 games which required a memory pak to save? Will we never see them, or will Nintendo finally come through?
