During a recent interview with MTV, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime described how Nintendo is trying to enlist as many Third Party development houses as possible.
Of the companies mentioned, the discussion regarding Take Two should prove to be the most interesting for Nintendo fans. As any monkey with a joypad will tell you, Take Two are the creators of the Grand Theft Auto series, a franchise Nintendo owners have been eager to get their hands on since its creation.
Reggie had this to say: "We're reaching out to every publisher, frankly every day. I'll be spending some time later today with the folks over at Take Two to see what type of support they can give our console. The fact is there will be M-rated content on the Wii console. EA has already announced that they're bringing 'The Godfather' to our console. And we want every single best-selling game to be available on Wii. Whatever that content is."
While it is possible that this M-rated content could be another franchise, or perhaps a new game entirely, it is at least a strong possibility that this could be a reference to Grand Theft Auto.
However, this statement does not mention Rockstar, the developers of the GTA titles. While the company is still published by Take Two, Rockstar often prefer to be referred to as a separate company.
Regardless of what this M-rated content is, it is promising that Nintendo are no longer as reluctant about mature games as they used to be.
Maybe we could use the Wii controller to bludgeon people to death with a baseball bat...
