Wii Modchip Shipping Next Week?

— Posted by Jesse MacVicar

Engadget is reporting that a Wii modchip (with a “quicksolder” mod for ease of use. Now anyone can mod their Wii with ease.) by Teamcyclops will be shipping as early as next week. This comes just days following the Wiinja video popped up on Youtube.

This modchip will sport the ability to play back-up Wii and GameCube titles (a given, obviously), as well GameCube homebrew and imports. If that wasn’t enough, there will be also a built-in audio-fix for compatibility with certain GameCube backups; and yes, your guess is as good on mine on that one. Included as well is DVD-R and DVD+R support, an optional chip disable wire, and a multi-purpose LED.

Engadget questions the credibility of this claim, but it’s unlikely that this is a hoax. Just goes to show you, when there’s a demand for piracy, there will be a market for it.
