More Revolution Info Revealed

In an interview with Business Week, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed a few interesting details about the Revolution. While they are not that revealing we thought they were interesting nonetheless.

First of all he did reveal that the interface of the new system hasn’t been finalized yet. The DS uses 2 screens, one being a touch screen and a microphone. The Revolution was suspected to use at least the microphone as it had been tested on the GameCube and lots of future DS games will use that feature, but according to Mr Iwata, it might not be in the final product.

“It certainly makes a game better to have voice commands, because it can alter how the game is played. But the fact of the matter is, to realize voice commands, all you have to do is install a microphone. We realize a few of our competitors are already thinking of following us on this, so it will not be a defining feature of the new console. We may or may not use the microphone in the new [Nintendo Revolution] interface.”

He also reminded the interviewer that graphics in games have reached near photo-realism and that they needed more innovations if we want the videogame industry to have a bright future, an opinion that is not shared by a lot of people, especially the competitors Sony and Microsoft.

As for the development kits, he said that some were out there but that most would be out in the near future.
