Unreal Engine 3 For Wii?

In a recent interview between Wired and Epic’s Mark Rein, he went on to say that, “But it’s not in our plans to bring Unreal Engine 3 to the Wii. It’s really designed for next-gen, high-definition.” It was later revealed that he was mis-quoted, because the corrected answer read, “But it’s not in our plans to bring Unreal Engine 3 to the Wii. It’s really designed for next-gen, high-definition. One of our licensees has been porting it, and they might be successful at that, and that would be great if they do it. It’s doable, but not something that we’re going to focus on.”

GoNintendo investigated further, and it was revealed that IGN had previously posted that, “Insiders claim that Gearbox was at one point experimenting with Unreal Engine 3 and attempting to create a dumbed-down version that would run on Wii. Unfortunately, we have been unable to confirm the accuracy of those rumors.”

How exactly would a Wii optimized Unreal Engine 3 benefit developers? Ports. It would make the porting process easier if they were to downscale and port games developed using Unreal Engine 3.

I guess it’s safe to assume we’ll be seeing Gears of War: Wii Edition by 2008, right? Kidding.
