Electronic Arts is pleased to announce that Madden NFL Football 2005 has officially gone gold for the PlayStation 2 console, the Xbox video game system from Microsoft, the Nintendo GameCube and GameBoy Advance. Production has also begun for the Madden NFL 2005 Collector's Edition, which will have a one-time, limited production run. All five console versions of Madden NFL 2005 are shipping August 9 and will be in stores everywhere by August 12. This is the second EA SPORTS title to debut on Xbox Live. Last year Madden NFL 2004 sold more than five million copies and was the best-selling videogame in North America. In its 15 year history the Madden Franchise has sold more than 37 million copies, making it the best-selling North American franchise of all time. Madden NFL Football is currently displayed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame–the only videogame to receive this honor.
This year, Madden NFL 2005 is the most complete football videogame available with its unprecedented defensive feature set. In the tradition of EA SPORTS innovation, Madden NFL 2005 introduces the Hit Stick. By giving players the ability to turn a game around with a crucial tackle, the Hit Stick delivers the power to take control of the game from the defensive side of the ball like never before. Along with all-new defensive pre-play controls and defensive AI enhancements, the defense now has a diverse arsenal of weapons available.
