Recent reports show that Nintendo has trademarked several acronyms. While we cannot yet confirm that those will be used for the DS, it would be a wise bet to say that they will. Nintendo has said several times that the DS and GB were 2 different systems, but many believe that the DS could, in fact, be called Game Boy "Something". The Game Boy name is recognized everywhere, so calling the DS the next Game Boy would be a wise decision. Here are the acronyms that were recently trademarked:
- DGB
- EGB
- GBD
- GBE
- GBN
- TGB
- WGB
- XGB
It seems like Nintendo wants people to guess as all of the acronyms are extremely different and could all refer to different names. Could it be Dual Game Boy, Game Boy Evolution? Your guess is as good as mine. GBN could also refer to Game Boy Network as the DS is wifi compatible and has the potential of going online. More as soon as Nintendo reveals the real name of the system, which should be really soon.
